CODE OF CONDUCT

Attendance

Students are expected to be present and on time for all private lessons and group classes and to participate actively in their musical development. Unfortunately, time lost as a result of student lateness cannot be made up. A time has been reserved for you regardless of whether or not you attend. For these reasons, we have instituted the following policies for missed lessons and classes:

Missed private lessons

  • If you need to cancel a lesson due to illness or emergency, please notify us in advance at northernartsacademy@shaw.ca or by the cell number you have been provided by your instructor. If a lesson is missed due to illness or emergency and there is at least 24 hrs. notice, and the student is well enough, every effort will be made to reschedule the lesson or to arrange a Zoom session in lieu of the in-person lesson. However, in this circumstance a make-up lesson is not guaranteed - it will be done as a courtesy whenever possible as scheduling permits.

      Missed group classes

  • There is no make-up for students missing group classes. In the event of teacher absence, an alternate instructor will be assigned for the evening, or a make-up scheduled at a mutually convenient time.

      School closure

  • For school closures due to inclement weather, please be advised that The Northern Arts Academy will follow School Board closure announcements. In the event of a closure, we will send out email notifications or text messages to all affected students. Any lessons or classes cancelled due to weather will be rescheduled. If the lesson or class cannot be rescheduled at a convenient time, a tuition credit or refund will be issued.

      Teacher absence

  • For private lessons that are cancelled due to teacher absence, a makeup will be offered at a mutually convenient time. If the class cannot be rescheduled, a tuition credit or refund will be issued at the end of term.

Gender Identity and Expression

NAA is committed to ensuring the physical and emotional safety of all students. As part of this commitment, we want to make sure students of all gender expressions and identities feel safe, welcomed and accepted in our Academy.

NAA has included pronoun identifiers as part of the registration process. This helps staff to respect the identity of our students, and encourage others in the class to do so as well.

Duty of Care

Our priority at NAA is ensuring that everyone feels safe, comfortable, and confident with their decision to participate in programs with us. We have developed a comprehensive plan that adheres to local and provincial health guidelines.

To keep our students safe we ask:

  • If someone in your household is ill and the student has no symptoms and intends to attend their lesson or class,

  • We encourage you to wear a mask. A disposable medical grade mask will work well for children - the mask should tightly cover their nose and chin.

  • There will be sanitizer available upon entering the building.

We ask if students are unwell to stay home. Please notify your instructor in advance for accommodation.

Promotional Release

Unless otherwise requested, students may appear in Northern Arts Academy promotional materials and/or media which may include visual or audio representation.

Communication

As email or texting is the most efficient form of communication with students, it is the responsibility of the student or parent/guardian to check their email and phones for school updates. Please keep your online profile with us up to date and make any necessary changes to your contact information as soon as possible.
